Whether you’re PCSing during the holidays, heading home to see family, or taking a much-needed winter getaway, one thing’s for sure, the holidays just aren’t the same without your furry sidekick. Between the suitcases, pet carriers, and gift bags, it’s easy to feel like the festive spirit might get lost in the shuffle. With a little planning, you can make your holiday move or trip feel cozy, joyful, and totally pet-friendly.
Pack Their Presents Too
Don’t leave your pet's gifts under the old tree! Bring their new toys, treats, or cozy bed along for the trip, it’s a great way to make them feel included and keep the holidays feeling special no matter where you celebrate. Bonus: unwrapping a few goodies together makes for adorable travel photos.
Deck the Halls (Safely!)
Even if you’re in temporary housing or a hotel, a few pet-safe touches, like twinkle lights out of paw’s reach or a mini tree without tinsel, can bring instant holiday cheer. Avoid hazards like real candles, glass ornaments, and ribbon (which curious cats love a little too much).
Make It Feel Like Home
Bring a blanket or toy that smells like home to comfort your pet during the journey. Familiar scents can ease stress, whether you’re crossing state lines for a PCS or heading to grandma’s for Christmas dinner.
Keep the Magic Alive
Play festive music, sneak them a few holiday treats, and take time to unwind together once you arrive. No matter where the military (or your travel plans) take you this season, your pet doesn’t care where you celebrate, only that they’re with you.
