Temporary Housing in Spring

Making sure your pet is comfortable during a PCS move is always important. Moving during the spring and summer months means the weather is warm so you’ll want to plan ahead to ensure your pet gets settled quickly. One of the great things about using temporary housing on base is that they are very accommodating to your pets needs. Temporary housing typically provides a kennel and usually bowls for food and water. Once you are able to check into your unit, your pet can get comfy right away.

Planning ahead is always important as many lodging facilities on base have a limited number of pet units available and spring and summer months are peak times for families to move. The earlier you can make a reservation gives you better chances of securing an available on base unit.

Of course there’s always a possibility that you may need to secure temporary housing off the installation. If that’s the case, be sure to set aside additional funds as you may be charged an additional fee for your pet. When your family is set to move into your permanent residence keep in mind pet fees could be due when you sign your lease.

Typically your to-do list is already long during a PCS move but don’t forget to ensure your pet is up to date on their vaccinations as you may be required to present them upon check in.

Tips for a smooth stay in temporary housing

  1. Ensure you have a comfortable leash for walks.

  2. Ensure your pet has breaks outside the kennel when possible.

  3. Be sure to pick up after your pet when taking outdoor potty breaks.
